In Psalm 37:4-6 the bible says:“ Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.”
In
verses 4-5, we find a promise. These verses implies that when we make God our
primary joy and delight, He aligns our desires with His will and fulfills them.
But, although it is a promise of spiritual alignment, please note that it is not a guarantee
of selfish wants.
Why
is it important to understand the desires of God's heart? When we understand
the desires of God's heart, we can then begin to know Him better, or to know
Him more intimately.
When
we draw closer to God, we learn to see Him as He is, a loving heavenly
Father who always wants the best for each of His children. We also can
better understand what HE wants to accomplish in us, in our hearts, in
our lives and through us. He has individual plans for each one of HIS
children. When we draw closer to God is also the best way to communicate the
desires of our hearts to Him. He is a very attentive Father. He always listens
when we share with Him the desires of our hearts.
When
we delight in the Lord, is how we truly find peace, satisfaction and value. This is the place to be so we know that we know
that when or where He calls us, we will be ready to go wherever He wants us to
serve. When we truly understand the greatness and immensity of His love
for us, it also frees us from negative and inferiority feelings that the enemy
would want you to believe.
Now,
does this mean that if we go to church every Sunday, if we read our Bible, even
if we are faithful with our tithes, God will give us a new car, or a big house
in a nice part of town? No, not at all! When we understand this verse and
other verses on the same theme, when we delight in eternal things, in the
things of God, when we pursue a daily intimate relationship with our God, we
will see God's goodness and provision in every aspect of our lives, even in the
smallest details… He gives us what our hearts desires…and it is still possible
that He will give you a car and a house…
However,
if the desires of our hearts are not aligned with the Word of God, we should
not expect the Lord to grant all our heart's desires. Matthew 6:33 provides a great
explanation: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all
these things will be given to you as well.”
Some of the desires of our hearts sometimes take
time to be fulfilled, therefore, having an unwavering faith is very important. It
is important to remember that everything happens in God's perfect timing. God
does things in His own time because He know the beginning to the end of our lives.
At times we pray for the salvation of people in our families, and it seems that
things are going in the wrong direction instead of what we expect. This does
not mean that our prayers are not being answered. At times, the enemy of our soul will try to
discourage us from praying. It also can mean that God’s perfect timing has not yet arrived. Therefore,
this is the perfect reason to pray even more and draw closer to God with great confidence.
Victory is near. In the 1980’s there was a song that said: “don't give up on the eve of a
miracle, God is still on the throne”
John 15:7 says :“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
Instead of filtering our prayers to only include what seems "important" to us, we can bring the full spectrum of our hopes into the light of the love God has for each and everyone of us. This allows us to move through the day with a settled spirit, knowing that if it matters to us, it certainly matters to our Heavenly father. The desires of our hearts have already captured His attention.
In
my personal life, my conclusion is found in Jeremiah 29:13:“ You will
seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Sincerely,
Denise
