The idea of praying great prayers comes from God.
Throughout the Bible we are
told to pray great prayers. Not big prayers at the level of time or many
words, but at the level of need and above all with the faith and the assurance
that God hears us.
A few years ago, I read the book “Pray Big”. As I read that book, I took notes. Today, I want to share some of these notes with you.
In Jeremiah 33:3I it says:“Call to
me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do
not know.” Also in Psalm 50:15, He says: “Call on
me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you
will honor me.”
This means that the Lord is
telling us that if we call on Him, if we pray big and bold prayers, He will
reveal great things to us, greater things than we can ever imagine. He will reveal great things to us about our walk
with Him, about the details that we need to change in our daily life to follow
Him more closely. Details about the vision He has for our life and that of our
family. Certainly, for some of us, it will be revelations about our work,
career, our studies or ministry. Most certainly, He will reveal other various details
about different matters that are close to our heart.
No matter what revelations He
has for us, I believe He is telling us: “Ask me for your great needs, for you will never be
able to exhaust my resources. You have no idea what I can do for you.
"
In Isaiah 58:9a, we read this: “Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: “Here am I.” In Isaiah 59:1, we read: “Surely, the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear.” In Isaiah 62:6-7 says:the Lord is talking to the intercessors of Israel, and He said: “I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest,7 and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.” This verse gives us a different understanding of the power of God when we ask Him to do great and bold things.
The greatest and bold intercessory prayer we can make is to pray for the salvation of one or more members of our family. There is no bolder prayer than asking a great God to save a big sinner. Amen!
In Matthew 6:6:“ But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” In Matthew 7:7-8: “Ask, Seek, Knock. 7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. In Matthew 18:19-20: “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” In Matthew 21:22:“ If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
The above-mentioned verses speak about praying in your private prayer closet, ask, seek and knock. Also agree with someone else in prayer for the Lord’s presence is when we pray together and finally believe and we will receive. Each one of these verses can be studied separately but they all do give us some very important instructions.
In Jeremiah 1:12 the Lord speaks to Jeremiah and says: “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.” In other words, the Lord says that He watches over His Word so it does what it says it will do.
John 15:16:“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” John 16:“ In that day you will not ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you anything you ask for in my name. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy will be the fullest possible joy.”
Remember, we don't need power for prayer, but we do need faith. It is our God who has all power. Even though
sometimes we feel that we only have the faith of a grain of salt (Matt
17:20-21), He urges us to pray big & great prayers. We must never forget that our prayers can change situations in our
life, our families, our church, our country, etc. There will no results for the Kingdom if we do not pray big. The Lord does expect us to make great requests of Him. He expects us to ask Him to move the big
mountains in our life. When we pray big prayers, we petition our God
to give us the best He has for us, for our family and in fact for our life.
According to the verses above, we should understand that we do have permission to ask God to do great things, miraculous things for each of us. All one needs is to understand that with all of God's divine power, He is always ready and available to answer our prayers. We must truly understand how great our God is and approach Him knowing that He wants to answer our big and ambitious prayers.
If we ask for
nothing, we will
receive
nothing. It is really up to us!
PRAY BIG, RECEIVE BIG!
Sincerely, Denise
